Zane: For Kids??

By Anthony Cauley

Zane is a female author of a series of erotic books. Kristina “Zane” LaFerne first started off by writing articles about her sexual love life, and posting them on the internet. Many people read these sexual posts and began to ask when will she write and publish a book. Adults and young adults like to read these books for one thing, SEX. She released 15 books. They are sold nation-wide. Zane is known as the best national seller of urban erotic books. Her books have sold over 2.5 million copies. People wait in long lines for her book signings. I interviewed/questioned three people about the publication and their enjoyment of her books.

Tiara, a young adult was questioned first. Tiara read these books just for fun of it, but says Zane is an interesting writer. She isn’t as open minded about sex like others, but doesn’t have a problem talking about it. She says, “I own three of Zane’s sex books, and they’re appropriate for my age, since I have sex, I’m old enough to read the books. Most teens like the books because of the sex. They should be sold to teens, because they do not have a parental advisory sticker on it. My mom doesn’t know I read these books, but she knew I was reading them I don’t think she would really care.”

Niya, a young adult who attends ACT Charter School doesn’t own any of Zane’s books. She’s open to talking about sex, but when it comes to having sex, protection should always be used. Niya quotes that, “Even though I don’t own any of her books, I still read them because they’re interesting, and they keep my attention. The books should be sold to teens because teens are the main people that need to be informed about sex. Most people read these books because it’s about black people and most of the books have very little sex scenes.”

Gwen, a young adult at the age of 23, owns five Zane books. She read these books for enjoyment and to help release her sexual self-esteem. She also doesn’t have any problems talking about her sexual life and comprehending Zane’s books. She quoted that, “If teens are mature enough to read sexual books from her they can. Teens like the books because it’s about sex and she is open about her sexual behaviors to others. Yes, they can be sold to teens, and if their parents knew about it they may be mad but it’s only reading, it’s better than them watching it on TV.”

Tina, an adult at the age of 39, owns mainly all of Zane’s books, and read all of her sexual internet posts. She’s an opened minded sex addict; she quotes, “I’m a freak,” but doesn’t talk about sex with her children. She is more likely to talk to other children and adults about sex. “The sexual books she publish talks about too much sex and isn’t appropriate to the teenage audience. Mostly teens and adults read these books to satisfy their sexual inner craving. The books shouldn’t be sold to teens, but if my boys read the books, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but if my girls read them I would strongly dislike it.”
